Engine conversions
Question:
I recently bought a MG Midget mk III -70 without an engine and gearbox.
I now have some problems locating a gearbox and engine without spending
a fortune, they are not so common in Finland after all. I have heard that
it is possible to fit a Morris Marina 1.3 or 1.8 engine to a midget but
how about the gearbox? If anybody knows about a Morris Marina engine+gearbox
conversion, please contact me. Other possibilities would be the Triumph
1500+gearbox which are easier to find here, how difficult is it to fit it
in a mk III midget? I have been told that a Ford escort Kent engine and
gearbox could be fit? Any suggestions which of this conversions would be
easiest.
Answers:
Does anyone have any information on using the Rover K series 16V engine in
the Midget? I recall reading about a Frontline conversions kit for the
midget. Of course that doesn't do us in the US any good since nothing is
imported with that engine at this time.
