On the right-hand is a view at the engine bay of my 1977 ex California specs
Midget. Fitted
with two SU HS4 carburettors.
As you can see I've removed al the emission control equipment. Only the lonely petrol tank breather pipe sticks into the engine bay. If I get time I will connect it neatly with a hose to the rear air cleaner, so eventually evaporating petrol fume will be sucked away though the carburettors.
On the left you can see how the water reservoir
is moved forward. Now it's fitted with only one screw (oops, I have to know better). The
other hole can be fixed with a Parker screw and a spacer to give the fitting more strength
in rough circumstances.
As you can see space is tight in a Midget engine bay. Because of the extra strong beams along the wings you can't use the standard air filter housing. You have to modificate the back plate to mount it a bit higher, but keep the bonnet in mind. Or, just like I did, go for performance K&N air cleaners.
